Nathan Lieng is a doctoral student in the Human Development and Family Studies program at Purdue University, working with Dr. Annabelle Atkin. He identifies as Chinese Viet American and is the son of refugee and immigrant parents. Born and raised in San Diego, Nathan completed his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Public Health at San Diego State University. He later completed his Master's degree in Psychological Science at California State University, Northridge, under the joint mentorship of Dr. Que-Lam Huynh and Dr. Angela-MinhTu Nguyen before joining Purdue.
 
 His research is centered on the racial-ethnic identity formation of people from minoritized backgrounds—primarily Asian Americans and Southeast Asian Americans—and its relation to adjustment and mental health. Specifically, he is interested in identifying risk and protective factors in the internalization of oppression. Additionally, he is also passionate about studying intergenerational trauma in refugee families. Ultimately, Nathan seeks to build community partnerships to study these processes to inform culturally-sensitive interventions and equitable policies.
 
 During his free time, Nathan enjoys listening to music and playing the guitar, documenting memories through photography/videography, and spending quality time with his loved ones.
