Dr. Annabelle Atkin joined Purdue University’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies in the fall of 2021. Annabelle identifies as a Biracial Asian American woman. She was raised in the suburbs of Cleveland and later college town of Storrs, Connecticut, by her Taiwanese-Chinese immigrant mother and White father. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Asian & Asian American Studies at the University of Connecticut . She then taught English in South Korea for two years. Annabelle graduated with her PhD in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University, where she worked with Dr. Brandon Yoo. She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Arizona State University for one year with sociologist Dr. Nilda Flores-Gonzalez before coming to Purdue.
Annabelle is passionate about studying Asian American and Multiracial youths' race-related development and raising awareness about how families can learn about and openly discuss race and racism at home. She enjoys doing interview and survey research, and creating measures that enable researchers to study racialized experiences.
When she's not working, Annabelle loves taking walks in nature, cuddling with her two cats, playing boardgames, eating Asian food, reading fantasy books, and going on adventures with her husband.
